The Emergency Management Unit provides a range of services to
the Council and the community.
These are:-
We are responsible for preparing the manuals and contingency
plans, which enable the Council to provide a fast, effective and
caring response to any civil emergency, major incident or
crisis.
Through a process called Integrated Emergency Management we
manage and participate in working groups aimed at improving the
response to major emergencies. We work with all Bath & North
East Somerset Council service areas, other local authorities,
emergency services, voluntary agencies, Health Authority, major
utilities and government departments.
In addition to these key responsibilities we also prepare for
events such as:
- Severe weather and flooding
- Major transport incidents
- Terrorist activities (Security and Evacuation)
- Fire, Building and Mines collapse
- Pollution and chemical incidents
We develop and manage exercises to test readiness in response to
specific scenarios. Our aim is to deliver these services
effectively and efficiently, and when necessary activate and
utilise local authority resources and expertise to support the
Emergency Services. For example this integrated response may
involve quickly evacuating people from their homes during floods
and setting up rest centres to ensure the safety, protection and
welfare of the community.
