The council supplies an emergency sandbag service for properties
in imminent threat of flooding from water courses and sheet run
off, and also for flooding from blocked road gullies and drains.
Where a property maybe in danger from flooding, but the
threat is not imminent, the responsibility lies with the property
owner or occupier to supply their own sandbags before the threat
becomes a reality.
Residents can buy sand and bags separately, so they can be
stored indefinitely and only made into sandbags in times of
need. Appropriate bags and sand are available from local builder’s
merchants. Alternatively, filled sandbags can be
purchased from the Council’s highway contractor Ringway on
01761 454950 or from local builder’s merchants. Further information

How the Out of Hours Service Works:
The Out of Hours number is (01225) 477 477. This number routes
the caller directly through to the business contracted to provide
the out of hours contact service.
The Out of Hours Service will record the details of the
emergency and initiate any necessary response.
Callers will be asked for certain information, including:
- The caller’s contact details.
- The precise location of the problem, including road name and
numbers and any identifying landmark that
may assist.
- The exact nature of the problem.
- What response the caller would like to see.
If the call is not classed as an emergency, the out of hours
call centre will advise the caller to contact Council Connect
on 01225 394041 during normal working hours. A record of the call
will be made, but no details will be passed to the council, nor any
response authorised.
