Bath & North East Somerset Council Corporate Plan
2008-2011
Bath & North East Somerset Council has approved a new
Corporate Plan for the period 2008-2011. The Corporate Plan
has been developed alongside work with the Local Strategic
Partnership on refreshing the Community Strategy. In this way
we have been able to align the Council’s priorities with those of
our partners to show more clearly how we can all work together in
order to deliver better outcomes for our communities.
The Corporate Plan sets out Bath and North East Somerset's
principal objectives, identifies issues selected for improvement
(referred to as Improvement Priorities), specifies targets and the
broad strategies and resources required to deliver these
targets.
The targets and indicators in this plan are being developed
alongside the negotiation of the Local Area Agreement. This
agreement is currently being negotiated with the Government Office
of the South West (GOSW) and is due for signing by the Council,
Government Office South West and the Local Strategic Partnership in
June. We will therefore need to review these elements of the
plan as this develops.

Bath & North East Somerset Local Area Agreement
2008/2011
Local Area Agreements (LAAs) are written agreements which set
out how public, voluntary and private sector bodies within an area
will work together to improve the quality of life for residents
over a three year period. The agreement lays out the priority
outcomes for an area and contains up to 35 indicators which measure
the achievement of those outcomes. The Bath & North East
Somerset LAA is comprised of 27 indicators.
The foundation for the B&NES LAA is the story of the area as
set out in the Council’s Corporate Plan. It highlights the
challenges that the area is facing and the Council’s priorities in
addressing them. From the overarching B&NES story, six
“theme” stories have been developed to expand on the challenges.
These stories make reference to the detailed evidence base that
justifies why an issue has been raised and why an indicator has
been proposed for the Local Area Agreement.
