Zero Waste Challenge Week

Zero Waste Challenge Week 2008
The Zero Waste Challenge Week won the Valpak Best Waste Minimisation Award at the National Recycling Awards in November 2007 and now Bath & North East Somerset Council in partnership with Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Councils are inviting local residents to take part in this year's challenge which is due to be held from Monday 29th September to Sunday 5th October 2008.

What is the week about?
The aim of the week is to see how little you can throw away in the rubbish bin by aiming to reduce, reuse, recycle and compost as much as possible instead. However much or little you usually throw away we think that if you give this challenge a go, you'll be surprised at how little you can throw away - on average those people who have taken part in previous years have thrown away 1/4 of what they would normally throw away.  For more information about the challenge and ideas on how can aim for zero waste, please go to Zero Waste Challenge Week Guidance and Tips.

Register to take part
It's important that everyone who takes part in the challenge registers with us to let us know.  We will then send you out an information pack telling you all you need to know about the challenge.   You can register by contacting Council Connect councilconnect@bathnes.gov.uk (01225 39 40 41) or by following the link to Register to take part.

The information pack includes a form to record how you got on over the week.  Once you have completed this form, please return it to us by FREEPOST or email (details are included on the form) by Friday 24th October to take part in a prize draw to win £50.  Alternatively you can complete the form online by going to Zero Waste Record Form and Questionnaire and clicking the 'respond to consulation' link on the right hand side.

Who else is taking part?
Individuals and community groups across Bath and North East Somerset are all signing up to take part in the challenge as well as staff teams throughout the Council and a number of local schools.

Staff from Bath University have set up a Facebook page (Bath Zero Waste Challenge) that anyone can sign up to and across the country people have been writing blogs giving information about their own zero waste experiences.  We have listed a few here as they're full of ideas and information that you may never have thought of:
