Diamond Travelcard: Free bus travel for residents aged 60 and
over and residents with disabilities
While-you-Wait Diamond Travelcard!
- Beginning on 15th May 2009, the Council are trialling a
while-you-wait service at the Council Connect Guildhall Office for
residents who are over 60 or who are disabled claiming their free
Diamond Travelcard.
- There is no need to complete an application form. All
that you need is evidence of eligibility and proof of
residency.
- A Council Connect team member will take a photograph at no
cost.
- If successful, this service could be extended to the Councils
other offices in Keynsham and Midsomer Norton.
- However, as the Council Connect Office at the Guildhall
currently receives 85% of Diamond Travelcard applications, this
office was selected for the trial.
- Please note this service will also apply to lost or stolen
cards as the Council will be able to confirm the status of your
card and, if necessary, issue a replacement.
- Please note there will be a £5 charge for lost cards.
- If you are reporting a stolen card the Council will need the
crime reference number from the police.

National Free Bus Travel for Concessionary Travelcard
Holders
- On 1st April 2008, a new national concession was
introduced that allows eligible people to travel for free after
9.30am Mondays to Fridays, and anytime on Saturdays, Sundays &
Public Holidays, on all local bus services in England.
- There has been a news item in the media about changes to the
concessionary travel scheme for elderly and disabled people, which
is causing alarm to some pass holders.
- What’s happening is that the range of bus services on which
elderly and disabled persons can use their bus passes is being
clarified.
- The changes to the regulations are being made by the Government
to remove some anomalies.
- As far as residents of Bath & North East Somerset are
concerned, there are no material changes to the scheme and pass
holders have no reason to be concerned.
- For further information, please access our 'Diamond Travelcard
Frequently Asked Questions' document under the 'Related Documents'
area in the top right hand side of this page.
