City of Bath Definitive Map Project

Project Update November 2008 

CURRENT SITUATION: The Bath Definitive Map Project Officer is currently on Maternity Leave.  The project will be resumed in early 2010.

 

River Path and Towpath

Research and consultations began on the river path, towpath and adjoining paths in 2008.

 

Abbey Ward (No. 6)

An order was made on 13th  August to add 44 public footpaths to the definitive map and statement (DMS) for the city of Bath in Abbey Ward.  The order was confirmed on 22nd October 2008.

 

Kingsmead Ward (No. 5)

An Order was made on 12th December 2006 to add 22 public rights of way to the definitive map and statement (DMS) for the city of Bath in Kingsmead Ward.  The order was confirmed on 19th March, 2008.

 

Newbridge Ward (No. 4)

An Order was made on 15th November 2006 to add 43 public footpaths to the definitive map and statement (DMS) for the city of Bath in Newbridge Ward.  The Order was confirmed on 25th April 2007. 

 

Lambridge Ward (No. 3)

An Order was made on 5th July 2006 to add 36 public footpaths to the definitive map and statement (DMS) for the city of Bath in Lambridge Ward.  The Order was confirmed on 15th November 2006 and 36 paths were added to the DMS.

 

Lansdown Ward (No. 2)

An Order was made on 10th August 2005 to add 14 public footpaths to the definitive map and statement (DMS) for the city of Bath in Lansdown Ward.  The Order was confirmed on 16th November 2005 and 12 paths were added to the DMS.

 

Weston Ward (No. 1)

An Order was made on 23rd March 2005 to add 23 public footpaths to the definitive map and statement (DMS) for the city of Bath in Weston Ward.  The Order was confirmed on 3rd August 2005 and 22 paths were added to the DMS.

 

Definitive Map and Statement (DMS)

The first DMS for the City of Bath was published on 29th March 2006.  It includes 55 public rights of way within the City of Bath.

A copy of the DMS can be found at the following Council Offices:

  • The Central Library, The Podium, Bath; The Definitive Map is found in Map File 4 in the Miscellaneous Maps section.  The Definitive Statement is held in the Fast Facts Section in Local Pamphlets.
  • Guildhall Bath; The Definitve Map and Statementare held in the Archives.
  • Riverside, Temple Street, Keynsham; The Definitive Map and Statement are held by Public Rights of Way. 

The map and statement are available to view during office hours.  The intention is to make the map and statement available on-line on the Council’s internet site in the near future. Please note that the Definitive Map and Statement does not yet cover the whole of the city of Bath.  For enquiries about Public Rights of Way in the city, contact the Public Rights of Way Team on 01225 477532.
