40th birthday celebrations at Radstock centre

USERS of Radstock Youth and Community Centre are planning a summer of celebrations to mark the centre’s 40th birthday.

Since it opened in 1964 the centre in Church Street – now run by Bath & North East Somerset Council – has seen thousands of young members pass through its doors.

And now youth workers are launching an appeal to try and find old members who can come into the centre and talk to the present users about their memories of the centre and how it has changed over the years.

The celebrations start on Saturday, May 29 from 11am-4pm when the centre is holding an open day which will also feature an exciting exhibition of work by local artists chosen by youth club members.

Jayne Lewis, Youth Worker at the Centre, said: “This event is an opportunity for members of the community and old youth club members and staff to visit the centre and talk to the young people who now attend.

“We are also looking for volunteers to help us set up a ‘friends of Radstock Youth Centre’ committee. No skills are required, just genuine enthusiasm. We’d love to hear from you.”

Other celebratory plans include a 40th anniversary party at the youth centre on Saturday, September 25 which will be open to members old and new.

Cllr Jonathan Gay, Executive Member for Education and Ward Member for Radstock, said: “Radstock Youth Centre is one of Bath & North East Somerset Council’s most popular and it is fantastic that it is celebrating its 40th birthday this year.

“I hope local people will come along to the open day on May 29 to see for themselves what an excellent facility for the town this is.”
