The second Citizenship Ceremony to be held in Bath & North East
Somerset will herald another first! – the first young person to be
granted citizenship in this area under new Government
arrangements.
The Home Office now requires applicants for
Citizenship to attend a Citizenship Ceremony, arranged by the
Council’s Registration Service. This is when the formal
Certificate of Citizenship is awarded.
Councillor Marian McNeir, recently elected Chairman of the
Council, will preside at a ceremony on June 16, at 10am at the
Guildhall. Among the applicants to be granted their certificates
will be the first young person in this area to be awarded
Citizenship in this way.
Councillor McNeir said “I am very excited about this
particular ceremony. It will be my first ceremony since being
elected Chairman of the Council.
I am looking forward to playing my part in the formal welcome
to our new British Citizens. However, the ceremony is more than
that. It is an opportunity to extend a warm welcome to new
citizens as members of our local community.
I am so pleased that this time we will be welcoming a young
person. It is an added factor that will make my first ceremony so
rewarding for me.”
Editor’s notes
Media coverage is welcomed at the ceremony although we are
obliged to respect the wishes of individual applicants as to the
degree of personal publicity.
