The 2003 Annual Report covering CCTV in Bath & North East Somerset
has recently been published.
Councillor Vic Pritchard, Executive Member for Community Safety,
Housing and Consumer Services said “The report confirms that CCTV
plays an integral part in deterring and detecting crime and
criminal activity. CCTV is an important part of the Council’s
commitment to public safety and demonstrates our firm stance
against violent crime and disorder - in particular anti-social
behaviour.”
“This report shows how effective CCTV is in helping us work in
partnership with the police to reduce the fear of crime in our
area and the overwhelming support for its use by members of the
public,” he continued.
The report includes the following findings:-

extensions to the system.

intervention (245). These figures are for all areas.
-
In 2003 there were 700 requests for access to recorded material
by the Police and as a result 205 copy tapes were provided for
evidential purposes.
-
93% of respondents stated that they felt safer within the CCTV
covered areas of Bath City Centre.
-
There were no complaints registered against the CCTV System in
2003.
