Calling crafty
people - young and old
LOOKING for
something to keep you occupied over the Easter break? Then why not
get creative and enter one of the competitions for this year’s Bath
Spring Flower Show.
The annual
event, organised by Bath & North East Somerset Council, takes place
from Saturday, May 1 to Monday, May 3 at Royal Victoria Park in
Bath.
There are three competitions at this
year’s event: crafts, junior and photographic.
This year’s crafts competition is an
open class entitled ‘If you’ve made it, we want to see it’- anything
crafty can be entered and the judges will be looking forward to
looking at the entries.
Prizes for each category are 1st
prize (£8), 2nd prize (£5) and 3rd prize (£3).

The junior competition is separated
into three sections: seven years and under, eight to 11 years and 12
to 16 years.
In the seven years and under
category, children have the choice of entering a painting or drawing
entitled ‘In the Jungle’, decorate a paper plate with a face or
decorate a flower pot.
The eight to 11-year-olds have the
choice of creating a miniature garden in a seed tray, making a scary
monster or animal from fruit or vegetables or creating a model from
any waste material.
In the last category 12 to
16-year-olds can decorate a box, decorate a greetings card with
appropriate wording inside or make a flower arrangement.
Prizes for each category are 1st
prize (£8 plus £5 book token), 2nd prize (£5) and 3rd prize (£3).
The photographic competition,
sponsored by Avon Film Productions and FotoStop, is also split into
three categories: up to 13 years, 14 to 18 years and over 18.
The topic for this year’s
competition is ‘Landmarks – Near and Far’ and prizes range from £30
to £5. The 1st prize winner in the up to 13 years category will also
win a compact camera.

and Amenity Services, Lower Sports Centre, North Parade, Bath, BA2
4ET or call 01225 477010.
Alternatively people can call into
the offices between 8.30am and 5pm Monday-Thursday or 8.30am-4.30pm
Friday.
Entry forms must be returned to the
Leisure and Amenity Services Department by Friday, April 23 and all
actual entries must be brought to the showground in Royal Victoria
Park from 6pm-8pm on Thursday, April 29 and 2pm-6pm on Friday, April
30.
The prize giving ceremony will take
place at 4.15pm on Monday, May 3 in the Horticultural Lecture and
Demonstration Tent.

The Flower Show is open to visitors
from 10am-6pm every day. Tickets cost £6 for adults, senior citizens
and unaccompanied children £5 – accompanied children can get in for
free.
