Don’t leave
safety to chance
EVERY year more
than 500,000 under fours are taken to hospital in the UK having had
an accident.
To help bring these figures down
people who work with children are invited to attenda half day
seminar examining a range of child safety issues at the BAWA Club in
Filton, Bristol, on Thursday, June 24 (9.30am-1.30pm).
The event has been organised by 14
local authority trading standards teams from across the south west –
including Bath & North East Somerset Council – along with the South
West Home and Leisure Safety Council and the South West of England
Regional Co-ordination of Trading Standards.
The conference – part of Child
Safety Week (June 21-27) – will include an overview of childhood
accidents in the UK as well as an examination of the types of safety
equipment available including the importance of car seats for
children. Conference delegates will also receive a free video and
teaching pack.
Sue Green, the Council’s Health
Development Officer, has helped organise the event. She said: “Every
year more than half a million young children are taken to hospital
as a result of an accident – many of the injuries are predictable
and preventable.
“This conference, which Bath & North
East Somerset Council has been delighted to have helped organise, is
looking at a wide range of child safety issues – especially child
safety equipment because we know it saves lives and helps reduce
serious injury.”
Anyone interested in booking a place
on the conference is asked to contact Sue Green on Tel: 01225 477562
or e-mail sue_green@bathnes.gov.uk – places cost £40 per person.
