Panel
investigates car parking provision
BATH & North
East Somerset Council is responsible for providing around two-thirds
of car parking spaces in the district.
Over the coming months the Council’s
Planning, Transportation, Economy and Sustainability (PTES) Overview
and Scrutiny Panel will be looking at car parking provision in the
area to determine if it meets the needs and wants of users and how
it affects local residents, tourism and the local economy.
The panel will then be making
recommendations to the Council Executive and to officers that will
lead to the development of a Council-wide Car Parking Strategy.
The Panel’s first meeting takes
place on Tuesday, April 20 at 10am at the Guildhall in Bath where
the terms of reference for the review will be decided and agreed.
Members of the public are invited to attend.
Cllr Caroline Roberts, who is
leading this review on behalf of the Panel, said: “Parking is an
issue that affects us all and, in harmony with this Panel’s
commitment to be the voice of the Community, it will be our task to
help ensure that Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Car Parking
Strategy will deliver the best possible mix and volume of car
parking to meet the needs of the various communities of Bath & North
East Somerset area.”
After the first meeting and a period
of research, the Panel will meet again on June 22 and 28 to consult
with a number of interested parties including Council officers,
local residents and representatives from the business community.
