Royal Crescent Public Inquiry results

A public inquiry into traffic restrictions, proposed by Bath & North East Somerset Council, at Royal Crescent has unveiled its results.

The Inquiry, which met in June, recommends that the proposed order made by the Council should be implemented. However, this does not mean that the order will automatically go ahead.

The next step will be for the Council to consider its proposed order, in light of the Inquiry’s report and also taking into account all public comments and objections BEFORE deciding whether to implement the order or not.

In its conclusion, the inquiry said that it supported the order as proposed because of the strength of arguments in favour of the Royal Crescent, rather than those arguments against the use of tour buses.

The Inquiry also stated that the grounds on which it had based its decision were unique only to Royal Crescent, in Bath.

The Council’s proposal was to close-off one end of the Royal Crescent and to implement a Prohibition of Driving Order, with certain exemptions to allow residents access.

The earliest opportunity for the Council to consider the Inquiry report and the proposed Prohibition of Driving order will be in September.
