Last year, Bath & North East Somerset Council and Norton Radstock
Town Council and signed up to an agreement to improve public
convenience services in Midsomer Norton. Foremost in the plans of
both Councils was the replacement of the public conveniences at
The Island.
The new Automatic ‘Superloo’ was commissioned on March 8 this year
(2004) and will have its official opening on FRIDAY JUNE 18
at 11.45 am. PHOTOGRAPHERS WELCOME
The toilet has already been well received locally – between the
opening on March 8 and May 25 there have been over 1850 uses and
the toilet has been open to public use 98% of the time.
The new toilet provides 24 hours a day access throughout the year,
has fully automatic functions such as sliding door, flushing,
washing and drying bowl, heating and lighting, paper dispensing,
water dispensing, soap dispensing, air induction and warm air hand
drying. In addition, the design of the unit conforms to national
guidelines for disabled-friendly buildings.
A nominal access charge of 10p is required, registered disabled
users are able to access the new facility with their RADAR keys.
Welcoming the installation of the new automatic toilet, Councillor
Rosemary Todd, Executive Member for Sustainability and
Environment, said “This new facility adds to the major
refurbishment of the other public conveniences at the Gullock
Tyning carried out last year. Midsomer Norton residents and
visitors to the town can be assured of a high standard of service
for many years to come.”
The new automatic toilet is supplied by Healthmatic Ltd of Calne.
