BATH & North East Somerset Council is inviting members of the
public to come along to one of four exhibitions across the
district to see for themselves some of the improvements made to
local transport in the last 12 months.
At the end of July the Council will be submitting its annual
progress report on the Local Transport Plan to the Government for
assessment.
The report looks at some of the transport schemes the Council has
been working on over the past year so that the Government can
clearly see the progress the Council has made.
The exhibitions will be held from 4pm-8.30pm at:
-
Guildhall in Bath on Monday, June 7
-
St John’s Hall in Keynsham on Wednesday, June 9
-
Millennium Hall in Chew Magna on Monday, June 14
-
Somer Hall in Midsomer Norton on Tuesday, June 15
Some of the improvements detailed in the exhibition include an
increase in the amount of people using the Park and Ride services,
a 36 percent increase in the number of cyclists entering the city
centre of Bath and a drop of 6 percent in the number of vehicles
entering the city since the start of the Local Transport Plan
period.
Cllr Sir Elgar Jenkins, Executive Member for Transportation and
Highways, said: “Bath & North East Somerset Council has made some
considerable improvements to the local transport infrastructure
since the Local Transport Plan came into force.
“The exhibitions are a good way for local people to see for
themselves the achievements this Council has made.”
Notes to Editors:
The Local Transport Plan sets out the transport objectives for the
Council between 2000/1 and 2005/6. Objectives include encouraging
